Darlington tops BH; NG falls to Mineral Point

DARLINGTON - The Redbirds needed just five innings to finish off Black Hawk Monday. Darlington defeated the Warriors 15-4 in a non-conference game.

Wade Black notched the win on the mound, striking out eight hitters in three innings with two walks, four hits and allowing two earned runs. Brandon Hudson pitched the final two innings for the Redbirds, allowing just a hit and two walks while striking out four.

Black Hawk sent a carousel of pitchers to the hill. Mike Walker and Pat Mahoney each pitched just one inning and allowed three and four earned runs a piece. Aaron Monson walked and hit a batter, and two more reached on errors. Kyle Walters went two innings on the mound for Black Hawk, striking out four while allowing three runs on six hits and a walk.

Tyler Hardyman, Brandon Heins and Colton Hackett each went 2 for 3 for Darlington, with Brandon Hardyman finishing 2 for 4 with a double.

Black Hawk, which had only five hits total, was led by Cory Schulz-Lincicum, who hit a home run and had two RBIs.

The Redbirds scored three runs in the first, four in the second, five in the third and three more in the fourth. The Warriors scored one run in the second and three in the third.

New Glarus 1

MINERAL POINT - The Glarner Knights took one on the chin Monday in a non-conference loss to the Pointers.

Junior Tyler Kreklow allowed three runs - two earned - in five innings for New Glarus. Kreklow struck out two and walked five in five innings of work.

Braden Pittman was 2 for 4 at the dish for the Glarner Knights, which scored their only run in the sixth.

Mineral Point, which was led at the plate by Grant Myers (2 for 3, double), scored two runs in the first and another insurance run in the fourth. Logan Benish pitched all seven innings for the Pointers, allowing just five hits while striking out eight.
