Darlington slips past New Glarus

NEW GLARUS - The Darlington boys basketball team withstood a second half run by New Glarus to pull out a 59-57 non-conference win Monday night.

New Glarus (9-10, 4-3 Capitol South) never led and trailed 40-30 at one point in the third quarter before rallying.

"I'm not frustrated," New Glarus coach Travis Sysko said. "I'm disappointed we lost. I'm very proud of the way the boys played against a very good Darlington team who has had a lot success."

Darlington senior Alex Erickson scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Redbirds. Fellow senior Bryan Reichling added 11. With the win, Darlington, ranked No. 8 in the Associated press Division 4 poll, improved to 18-2.

The Knights had three players in double figures, led by Riley Miller and Tyler Dorn with 12 points each. New Glarus junior Tyler Kreklow added 11. Miller hit three 3-pointers and added a had a 3-point play late to help New Glarus stay close.

Brodhead 57, Belleville 35

BELLEVILLE - The Cardinals won their fifth straight game.

Brodhead senior J.J. Panoske, a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee recruit, scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Cardinals.

Brodhead (10-7, 8-4 Rock Valley South) started out strong in building a 31-20 half-time lead. The Cardinals outscored the Wildcats 13-3 in the third quarter.

Brodhead senior Carson Scheidegger scored 12 points and junior David Earlywine added nine.

Highland 57, Pecatonica 51

BLANCHARDVILLE - Pecatonica senior Karson Feller scored 18 points, but it wasn't enough as the Vikings lost to Highland.

Highland jumped out to a 15-7 lead in the first quarter. The Vikings (3-15, 2-7 Six Rivers east) battled back to tie it at 35 heading into the fourth quarter. Highland outscored the Vikings 22-16 in the decisive fourth quarter.

Pecatonica junior Wyatt Massey scored eight points. Feller made three of the six 3-pointers the Vikings made.

Potosi 50, Black Hawk 27

SOUTH WAYNE - Potosi rolled to a big win over the Warriors in a Six Rivers crossover matchup.

The Chieftains outscored the Warriors 17-4 to take a 17-point halftime lead.

Black Hawk sophomore Cory Rupnow scored a team-high 10 points to lead the Warriors.

Juda 51, Johnson Creek 40

JOHNSON CREEK - Juda sharpshooter Brandon Bauman scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Panthers to a non-conference win.

Juda (11-7, 7-3 Six Rivers East) rolled to a 17-7 lead after the first quarter and led by eight points at halftime. The Panthers put the game away by outscoring Johnson Creek 13-2 in the fourth quarter.

Juda junior Joey Jordan added 13 points.
