FENNIMORE - The Darlington girls basketball team remained one of the hottest area teams after posting a 49-35 win over Fennimore Friday night.

The Redbirds (8-2, 4-1 SWAL) went on a 7-0 spurt in the first 30 seconds of the second quarter en route to outscoring the Golden Eagles 25-7 in the period.

The Redbirds, who have won four of their last five games, hit four of their five 3-pointers in the second quarter.

Darlington coach Kurt Cohen said the Redbirds increased the pressure in the second quarter by using fullcourt pressure, which led to a couple of steals and some easy baskets on the break.

"The second quarter is as well as we have played all year," Cohen said.

Darlington senior Kari Blosch led the Redbirds with a team-high 12 points. Fellow senior Mariah Gibson scored nine points and Katie Martin added eight.

Ashley Martin and Kelsi Blosch chipped in seven points each in a balanced offensive attack.

The Redbirds were 19-of-23 from the free throw line. With upcoming games against conference leader Cuba City and Mineral Point, Darlington could put itself in a position to contend for a conference title with the Cubans.
