Darlington rolls to another win

DARLINGTON - Hunter Johnson scored three touchdowns, including the first two of the game, to lead the Darlington High School football team to a 56-7 victory over Fennimore in a WIAA Division 6 second-round playoff game Friday.

The top-seeded Redbirds (11-0) move on to host second-seeded Pecatonica-Argyle (11-0) on Nov. 4. Pec-Argyle scored a 41-8 victory over Markesan Friday.

Seven of the eight teams remaining in Division 6 are unbeaten, including Darlington and Pec-Argyle.

Johnson carried the ball 20 times for 170 yards. He scored on a two-yard run and a 30-yard interception return in the first quarter and then scored on a 10-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Trevor Johnson added a touchdown on a 31-yard run in the second quarter. He gained 68 yards on eight rushes.

In the second quarter, Jared Meister threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Glendenning and also scored on a 15-yard fumble return.

The Redbirds added two more touchdowns in the final 10 minutes of the fourth quarter.

Connor McGowan returned an interception 35 yards for a TD, and Tony Ruesga had an 11-yard TD run.



Shullsburg 13, Black Hawk 12

SHULLSBURG - Quarterback Noah Wand tossed a game-tying 36-yard touchdown pass to Nate Wedige and the Miners made an extra point in the third quarter to pull out a win over Black Hawk.

Black Hawk (8-3) jumped out to an early lead when junior quarterback Michael Flanagan hooked up with Jett Rufenacht on a 27-yard TD pass in the second quarter. The Warriors' two-point conversion run failed and they led 6-0. Wand then connected with Wedige on a 40-yard TD pass in the second quarter to tie the game at 6 at the half.

Black Hawk sophomore running back Colby Argall scored on a 3-yard run in the third quarter to give the Warriors a 12-6 lead. Both two-point conversion runs the Warriors attempted were denied.

Wand completed 9 of 16 passes for 161 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Wedige had five receptions for 116 yards with two touchdowns.

Shullsburg (9-2) advances to host Highland Nov. 4.
