MONROE - Two area football teams received No. 1 seeds in the playoffs after the WIAA announced the seeds and first-round postseason matchups Saturday.
Both Darlington (9-0) and Pecatonica (9-0) earned No. 1 seeds and are in separate eight-team playoff groupings. Darlington, ranked No. 1 in the WisSports.net Division 6 Coaches poll, received the top seed in Group D of the Division 6 playoffs and will host Pardeeville (5-4) in a first-round game Friday. All first-round playoff games are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday.
"I think the kids certainly earned it," Darlington coach Scott Zywicki said. "They have proven their worth on the field. I think our kids are deserving of that No. 1 seed. Now we just have to go out and prove ourselves again over the upcoming weeks."
Pecatonica-Argyle, ranked No. 2, received a No. 1 seed in Group C of the Division 6 playoffs and will host Kickapoo-LaFarge (3-6).
If both Darlington and Pecatonica-Argyle make postseason runs they would have home playoff games for the first three rounds of the playoffs as top seeds.
"The team earned the No. 1 seed," Pecatonica-Argyle coach Larry Green said. "Having a home playoff game is definitely an advantage."
The other first-round playoff matchups are as follows:
Division 3
Evansville-Albany (9-0) was an unbeaten outright Rock Valley North Conference champion, but they got a No. 3 seed and will host Pewaukee (5-4) in the opening round of the playoffs.
