FENNIMORE - The Darlington football team won a shoot-out for SWAL supremacy beating Fennimore 42-28 Friday night.
Darlington (3-0, 1-0 SWAL) opened the game with a bang as senior Alex Erickson returned a punt 81 yards for a touchdown. Erickson had five total touchdowns to lead the Redbirds.
Fennimore scored twice in 1 minute, 52 seconds to take a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Darlington junior Seth Rowe rushed for 168 yards on 28 carries.
Fennimore senior quarterback Hunter Lyght threw a 14-yard TD pass to Tyler Hunt to give the Golden Eagles a 22-21 lead with a minute left in the second quarter. The Redbirds weren't done. Erickson connected with Tucker Wiegel on a 28-yard TD pass to give the Redbirds a 28-22 halftime lead.
Fennimore's Everett Schwer intercepted an Erickson pass and returned it 41 yards for a touchdown about a minute into the third quarter to tie the game at 28.
The Redbirds scored 14 unanswered points capped by Rowe's 1-yard TD run with 6:10 left to seal the game.
New Glarus-Monticello 22, Columbus 0
NEW GLARUS - The Glarner Knights continued to roll on offense, and junior quarterback Lukas Kolasch made a big play late on defense to save the win.
Leading 15-0 in the fourth quarter, Kolasch, who plays defensive back, intercepted a pass and returned it 32-yards for a touchdown.
Tyler Dorn opened the scoring in the second quarter with a 56-yard TD reception from Kolasch. Mason Lockard ran the ball in for the two-point conversion. Then, in the third quarter Lockard scored on a 5-yard run of his own.
New Glarus (3-0) out-gained Columbus 207-135 on the ground and 147-38 through the air. In all, the Glarner Knights collected 354 total yards of offense.
Black Hawk 40, Benton-Scales Mound 14
BENTON - Chayse Johnsrud led the way for the Warriors, racking up three touchdowns Friday night as the Warriors showed off their explosive offense.
Benton-Scales Mound left 14-12 at halftime, but Johnsrud, who had two rushing scores in the game, scored on a 69-yard touchdown pass with 1:13 left in the third, putting Black Hawk (2-1) up 28-14 to blow the game open.
The Warriors outscored the Zephyrs 28-0 in the second half.
Lodi 31,
Belleville-Albany 0
BELLEVILLE - The Wildcats were held to just 35 total yards of offense against Lodi, who made it to the state semifinals a year ago.
The Blue Devils piled up 347 yards of offense, including 294 on the ground. Tyler Caldwell rushed for 219 yards and three scores.
Lodi took a 10-0 lead in the second quarter after a field goal and a 4-yard run by Caldwell. In the third, Caldwell ran it in from 15 yards out and added his third touchdown midway through the fourth to seal the victory. David Niesen scored the final Blue Devil touchdown with just two seconds remaining.
Donovan Woods led Belleville-Albany (0-3) with 68 yards rushing on 20 carries, but the Wildcats struggled in the passing game.
In other action, Pecatonica-Argyle lost to River Ridge 50-28.
