JANESVILLE - Darlington's boys took seventh place as a team Saturday at the Midwest Invite at Janesville's Blackhawk Golf Course, two places ahead of Monroe.

Pacing the Redbirds was sophomore Tyson Miehe, who was eighth overall with a time of 15 minutes, 56 seconds on the 5-kilometer course. Destin Komprood (16:28, 26th place), Kent Miehe (16:37, 37th), Michael Sinclair (16:57, 60th) and Brady McDaniel (17:12, 81st) rounded out Darlington's scoring.

Monroe, which was just one point behind Dubuque Senior for eighth place, was led by Ethan Moehn, who came in 22nd place with a time of 16:26 and earned a medal.

"It was nice to see Ethan medal. This is not an easy meet to earn a medal at," Monroe coach Dave Hirsbrunner said. "With this many quality schools of all sizes, it's truly an honor to be in the top 30. Ethan got out hard and raced well in the middle. He put himself into a good position for the finish."

Joel Henry (16:41, 44th), Steve Christiansen (16:50, 50th), Luke Peterson (16:55, 55th) and Cody Oudinot (17:33, 122nd) also scored points for the Cheesemakers.

"Of the 28 guys that raced Saturday, 21 set personal bests," Hirsbrunner said. "Overall as a team, we ran very well. This is a fast, flat course that is known for producing some good times. This was a great test for our varsity."

Albany came in 24th out of 37 teams. Jose Ramirez led the Comets with a run of 17:04, good enough for 74th place overall. Reece Whitehead (17:28, 116th), Chad Helland (17:44, 135th), Brennan Bloedel (17:50, 142nd) and Kyle Woyak (18:55, 200th) rounded out the Comets' lineup.

Hartland Arrowhead won the meet over host Janesville Craig. Russell Sandvold of Arrowhead held off Madison La Follette's Chandler Diffee by just over two seconds to win the 253-person race with a time of 15:11.37.

On the girls side, Darlington took 16th as a team while Monroe finished 24th.

Christa Wamsley led the Redbirds with a time of 15:54 on the 4-kilometer course. Teammates Hannah Robiolio (16:04, 59th), Cheyenne Wolfe (16:14, 81st), Amy Jorgenson (16:41, 112th) and Rebecca Mathias (16:51, 122nd) rounded out Darlington's scoring.

For Monroe, junior Abby Rogerson led the pack with a time of 16:46, good enough for 117th place out of 221 runners in the varsity race, one spot and one second ahead of teammate Nicole Witt. Teammates Alyssa Dale (17:05, 133rd), Therese Hughes (17:18, 146th) and Mollie Bazley (17:46, 158th) also scored points for the Cheesemakers.

In the Frosh/Soph race, Albany's Bailey Hlavachek took 34th with a time of 16:49.
