MADISON - The Darlington-Cuba City golf team missed by one stroke qualifying for the WIAA Division 2 Wisconsin Dells Sectional in Wednes-day's Madison Edgewood Regional.
The Redbirds shot a 386 at Yahara Hills Golf Course, falling just short of Lancaster (385) and McFarland (383) to qualify as a team.
"This was our best regional score by far," Darlington head coach Gary Ringen said.
Senior Ali McCauley shot an 81, which was keyed by a birdie on 17, and junior Nellie Black had an 88. Both qualified as individuals for the sectional at Trappers Turn in Wisconsin Dells.
Sophomore Shelby Poss shot a 108, freshman Naomi Black had a 109 and junior Erica McComish finished her round with a 117.
Madison Edgewood, which has won the state title as a team the past eight seasons, finished first at the regional with a staggering 313. Edgerton was second with a 371. Edgerton's Allyssa Ferrell, who, according to Ringen, will be attending Michigan State on a full scholarship, had the best round of the day, finishing with a par 72.
Also at the regional was Wisconsin Dells (476), Beloit Turner (492), Prairie du Chien (497) and Southwestern (525).
