Darlington boys have 3 relays state-bound

BANGOR - Darlington senior Jason Singer helped the Redbirds qualify two relays for state at the WIAA Division 3 Boscobel sectional Friday.

Singer teamed with Dane Siegenthaler, Cole Trumble and Trevor Johnson to win a sectional title in the 1,600 relay (3:32.93). Singer then helped the 800 relay team to a win in the slow heat and a fourth-place finish overall (1:34.77). The Redbirds also qualified for state in the 3,200 relay with a team of Jaden Komprood, Siegenthaler, Blake Cwynar and Thomas Schultz taking second place (8:17.11). Albany's 3,200 relay team took fifth (8:28.02) and may be an extra qualifier.

Luther edged Melrose-Mindoro for the sectional championship 58-48. Darlington finished sixth as a team (44) and Albany was 18th (14). Monticello took 24th (8) out of 31 teams.

Monticello junior Drew Yaun took third place in the 400 (52.12). Albany senior Brennan Bloedel finished third in the 3,200 (10:03.31). Darlington senior A.J. Coulthard finished third place in the discus (137-0).

Komprood just missed qualifying for state in the 3,200 taking fifth place (10:26.16) and he was sixth in the 1,600 (4:48.49).

In the girls' sectional meet, Pecatonica-Argyle sophomore Josie Penniston finished second place in the 400 (58.75) and third in the 100 (12.84).

Darlington senior Johanna Meister took second in the 800 (2:23.95). Meister teamed with Meghan Douglas, Paige Schilling and Carly Langkamp to take third in the 1,600 relay (4:13.21). The Redbirds' 3,200 relay team of Langkamp, Erin Wolf, Schilling and Meister finished second (10:16.81) and Albany took third. The Comets' 3,200 relay team of Lyndsay Hoesly, Sydnee Woyak, Madeline Halverson and Ciearria Mortaloni took third with a time of 10:27.96.

Cuba City ran to the sectional title 105.5-77 over Benton/Scales Mound/Shullsburg. Darlington took 11th (24) and Pecatonica-Argyle was 13th (20). Albany finished 18th (12) out of 28 teams that scored.

Woyak just missed qualifying for state in the 1,600 taking fifth place (5:45.32).
