BOSCOBEL - The Darlington Redbirds girls cross country team dominated the top finishes and distanced themselves from second place Boscobel to claim its second consective SWAL conference title on Tuesday.
The Redbirds placed six runners in the top twelve to take first place with 39 points. Boscobel finished second with 48 points and Fennimore took third with 49 points.
Sophomore Amy Jorgenson led the Redbirds, coming in fourth with a time of 16:22. Freshman Cheyenne Wolfe was sixth with a time of 16:28. Senior Olivia Wedig placed eighth in 16:30 and freshman Christa Wamsley was tenth in 16:33. Sisters Taryn Evenstad, a junior, and Tatum Evenstad, a freshman, were 11th and 12th, respectively, with times of 16:35 and 16:43 for the Redbirds.
On the boys side, Darlington runners captured four of the top five spots in winning the conference title with 26 points.
Boscobel was second with 43 points and Cuba City-Southwestern was third with 81 points.
Sophomore Kent Miehe topped the field with a time of 17:27. Sophomore Michael Sinclair was third with a time of 17:33. Junior Connor Roche took fourth in 17:40 and senior Jordan Heinberg ran fifth in 17:49.
The boys team, which finished 11th at the state meet a year ago, claimed the SWAL Conference title for the second year in a row.
