Darlington boys, girls run to second

DARLINGTON - Both the Redbirds boys and girls cross country teams ran to second-place finishes in the Darlington Invitational on Saturday.

Dodgeville-Mineral Point had five of its runners finish in the top 13 to outduel the Darlington boys 35-67 for the team title. Albany took 10th (288) and Pecatonica-Argyle was 12th (301) out of 16 teams.

Beaver Dam junior Cade Ferron won the 5,000-meter race with a time of 17 minutes, 8.3 seconds. Dodgeville-Mineral Point's Henry Keith took second (17:08.7) out of 129 runners.

Darlington junior Payton Heinberg finished fourth (17:32), and senior Tanner Evenstad placed eighth (17:48.1) followed by junior Tucker Lange in ninth (17:51.4). The Redbirds had four of the top 15 runners. Senior Paul King took 14th (18:18).

The difference for the title came down to the fifth runner. Junior Trae Schilling finished 32nd (19:12.7) and Dodgeville-Mineral Point's No. 5 runner, sophomore Peyton Tranel, took 13th (18:11.1).

Albany junior Josh Dahl placed 15th (18:20.6) to lead the Comets. He was the only Albany runner in the top 30.

Pecatonica-Argyle sophomore Payton Flannery finished 27th (18:48.6), and sophomore teammate Troy Nickles took 32nd (19:08.2).

The other top runners for Albany were senior Garrett Hlavachek, who took 55th (20:22.8), senior Logan Parker, who finished 56th (20:24.1), sophomore Josef Schirgi who placed 78th (21:52.3), and senior Luke Johnson, who was 84th (22:20.9).

The other three finishers for Pecatonica-Argyle were sophomore Kyle Hartley, who finished 63rd (20:32.8), junior Cade Bush, who was 80th (21:58.8), and senior Hayden Flannery, who was 101st (27:19.1).

In the girls race, Beaver Dam sophomore Jada Donaldson won the race (20:23.3).

The Redbirds had three of the top 15 runners, but Prairie du Chien, which had four of the top 18, captured the team title 76-88. Albany finished seventh (154) out of 15 teams.

Darlington senior Reghan Komprood finished fourth (20:41). Albany senior Emma Guenther took seventh (20:56).

Darlington junior Ilse Mendez finished 13th (21:44.8), and senior Emma Crist took 15th (21:58.6). Senior Erin Wolf placed 21st (22:12.5), and sophomore Gracie Douglas was 35th (23:14.3).

The other top finishers for Albany were junior Megan Anderson, who took 25th (22:35.4), junior Kaitlyn Row, who placed 32nd (23:02.2), sophomore Kristin O'Bel, who finished 45th (23:31.9), and junior Madison Peters, who was 46th (23:33.9).

Pecatonica-Argyle junior Stephanie James took 91st (26:33.2), and junior Abby Loomis placed 101st (28:30.6).



Brodhead-Juda girls take fourth

LODI - The Brodhead-Juda girls had two runners finish in the top 10 en route to a fourth-place finish at the Lodi Invitational.

Brodhead-Juda freshman Madelynn McIntyre took fourth (20:46.14), and senior Madee Harding finished ninth (21:35.47).

Jefferson ran away with the team title 46-91 over Janesville Parker in the nine-team invitational.

Jefferson junior Mariah Linse won the race with a time of 20:03.40.

Sophomore Carissa Purdue placed 29th (23:56.94) and junior Zoe Tresemer was 31st (24:06.97). Senior Morgan Tresemer took 33rd (24:32.79).

The Brodhead-Juda boys finished fifth (116 points) out of eight teams at the Lodi Invitational. Jefferson won the team title over Lodi 52-74.

Brodhead-Juda sophomore Jacob Staffon finished ninth with a time of 18:31.59. Freshman Trenton Condon took 15th (19:07.11) and senior Holden Whitledge finished 19th (19:17.31). Senior Luke Skoumal placed 36th (20:25.17) and senior Jacob Lengel was 37th (20:29.71).
