Darlington bodes well at own meet

DARLINGTON - Monticello senior Reid Zanoya didn't take long to get back into top shape on the track.

Zanoya was named the outstanding male athlete of the Darlington Invitational Thursday after winning the 400-meter dash (:51.42) and the long jump (20 feet, 2 1/2 inches). He also finished second in the 200 (:23.10) and third in the 100 (:11.43).

Darlington's Hannah Huffman was the outstanding female athlete of the meet after she had a hand in winning three events. She won the 200 (:28.17), 400 (1;)3.85) and she was on the winning 1,600 relay. Huffman added a second place in the long jump (15 1/2).

Darlington freshman Tyson Miehe finished first in the 3,200 with a time of 10:07.50. The Redbirds won all four relays including the 400, 800, 1,600 and 3,200 relays.

Wedig won the pole vault for the Redbirds with a vault of 11-0. Pecatonica-Argyle junior Wyatt Massey finished first in the 800 (2:09.24).

Monticello's Brent Pence won the 300 hurdles (:45.45).

In the field events, Darlington's Zach Mosley won the discus (129-8). Black Hawk's Bryant Luhman took first in the shot put (43-1 1/2).

The Darlington girls won three of the four relays.

Black Hawk senior Rachel Rygh finished first in the 100 (:12.76) and freshman Jen Wellnitz was second (:12.94). Pecatonica-Argyle junior Kendra Sigg finished first in the 1,600 with a time of 5:58.62. Darlington's Alix Brandt won the 100 hurdles (:17.81).

Chelsea Fortin won the pole vault (8-0) for Darlington and Elizabeth Mathias was first in the long jump (15-2). McKenzie Pickett won the shot put (32-1).
