ALBANY - Tyler Dahl's 27 points and an early lead in both halves proved to be pivotal factors in the Albany High School boys basketball team in a 58-54 nonconference victory Tuesday over Belmont.
The Comets (4-2) opened an 11-2 advantage in the first half and led 25-19 at halftime. They stretched the lead to 15 points with about 13 minutes left but couldn't shake the Braves (3-2).
"Belmont battled back," Albany coach Derik Doescher said. "They'd get the lead down to two or three points, and we'd go on a little run and lead by five or six points."
Dahl was 3-for-3 from the free-throw line during the
last 2 minutes of the game to help Albany hold off the Braves.
Dahl, a senior point guard, scored 12 points in the first half and 15 in the second half. He was 9 of 12 from the free-throw line in the game.
Senior forward Cole Trapp had 15 points for the Comets. He was 5-for-5 from the line.
Junior Brock Gilkes hit Albany's only two 3-pointers in the game.
Belmont got 27 points from Raine Voights.
Argyle 59,
Benton 36
ARGYLE - Senior Riley Ostby and junior Collin Argue combined to score 33 points to help Argyle roll over Benton.
Ostby scored a game-high 19 points, and Argue had 14 points to power the Orioles (4-2, 0-1 Six Rivers East). Argyle senior Kyle Emberson knocked down three of the Orioles' five 3-pointers to finish with nine points.
"We did a good job of running our zone offense," Argyle coach Justin Jenson said. "We were able to get more comfortable in our zone offense."
Benton was led by Joe Bailey who scored 11 points. The Orioles used a 2-3 zone defense to stymie the Zephyrs.
"I thought we did a good job of challenging their shots and we did a good job of limiting their second-chance scoring opportunities."
