Comets upend Sugar River

BELLEVILLE - Delavan-Darien's Jason Cano scored three goals to post a hat trick to lead the Comets to a 7-1 win over Sugar River on Saturday.

Delavan-Darien (10-0), the defending Division 3 state champions, which are ranked No. 1, overpowered the Raiders with five first-half goals. Delavan-Darien's Tigrio Huerta scored the first goal on an assist from Cano at 1 minute, 36 seconds. Cano scored two goals in the first half to lead the Comets to a 5-0 lead at the half. Huerta finished the game with two goals and two assists. Huerta now has scored 23 goals.

Sugar River senior Dylan Hustad scored as goal on an assist from Cory Hoven in the 46th minute for the Raiders to cut the Comets' lead to 5-1.

Sugar River goalkeeper Cole Myers had 10 saves. With the loss, Sugar River drops to 6-3, 2-0 Capitol Conference.
