WAUSAU - The Albany girls cross country team won the 60th annual Smiley Division 2-3 Invitational on Saturday.

The Comets were led by senior Ciara Kaderly who took fifth overall in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 20 minutes, 13 seconds. All of the Division 2 and 3 schools ran together, but awards were given for each division separately. Kaderly took third in the Division 3 race results.

Albany ran away with the Division 3 title 87-104 over Rosholt (104). Albany junior Emma Gunether finished 11th (21:07) and sophomore teammate Megan Anderson took 17th (21:39). Sophomore Kirsten Oliver placed 23rd (22:04) and freshman Kristin O'Bel took 33rd (22:32).

The Albany boys finished fourth in the Division 2-3 results and second in the Division 3 standings. Chequamegon (114), which is ranked No. 2 with Darlington in Division 3, outdistanced Albany (189) for the team title.

Albany sophomore Josh Dahl took third in the Division 3 race (17:31) and senior Isaac Halverson placed seventh (17:44). Teammate Trevor Mueller took 18th (18:35) and Logun Parker was 19th (18:52). Senior teammate Connor Trow finished 23rd (18:58).



Belleville Invite

New Glarus-Monticello senior Kyle Fredrickson took third in the Belleville Invitational on Saturday to lead the Glarner Knights to a fourth-place finish.

Fredrickson finished the 5,000-meter race with a time of 17:41. New Glarus-Monticello had three runners in the top 10. Senior Christian Arnett took seventh (19:07) and freshman Adam Nelson took 10th (19:18). Senior teammate Andrew Newberry placed 32nd (20:50.44).

Wisconsin Heights, led by individual champion Lucas Caminiti (17:23), captured the team title (68-77 over Milton. Pecatonica-Argyle (307) in the 10 team invite.

In the girls competition, New Glarus-Monticello took sixth (124) out of eight teams. Evansville outdueled Milton for the championship 61-75. New Glarus-Monticello sophomore Gabbie Sawyer finished fifth (22:01) and sophomore Gabby Whisler finished 14th (23:55).

Teammate Molly Molencamp placed 25th (24:54) and senior Kelly Fredrickson was 35th (25:56). Senior teammate Jenna Molencamp placed 45th (27:53).
