ARGYLE - The Argyle and Albany boys basketball teams went back and forth for three quarters Tuesday before the Comets pulled away in the fourth quarter to win 66-57.
Argyle (4-12, 2-9) led 19-15 after the first quarter and 33-32 at the half before Albany junior Tyler Dahl took control of the game. Dahl scored a game-high 26 points to help the Comets take a 50-49 lead into the fourth quarter. Albany finished the game on a 16-8 run to seal the win.
"We couldn't get many shots to fall," Argyle assistant coach Bob Lawinger said. "Honestly our shot selection wasn't the best. We had quite a few turnovers in the fourth.
"They just made their baskets and free throws down the stretch."
Junior Cole Trapp scored 15 points for the Comets.
Argyle was led by junior Riley Ostby and senior Colton Ploessl, who scored 22 and 12 points, respectively.
Albany (8-12, 6-4 Six Rivers East) hit 10 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter.
Argyle will host Juda Friday. Juda beat Argyle 50-45 earlier in the season.
"It was a tight game first time around, so we're looking for it to be a good game here Friday," Lawinger said of Juda.
Dodgeville 75, Monticello 33
DODGEVILLE - Dodgeville's Trent Jones and Caleb Grady combined for 27 points to help the Dodgers knock off Monticello 75-33 Tuesday.
Dodgeville led 21-10 after the first quarter and 43-18 at the half. Dodgeville used a 27-9 third quarter run to end any hope for a Ponies' comeback.
Jones scored a game-high 15 points and Grady chipped in 12 for the Dodgers.
Monticello (1-19) was led by senior Ben May, who scored 12 points and had seven rebounds. Senior Jake Pusel and sophomore Zach Price scored seven and six points, respectively.
Dodgeville out-rebounded Monticello 41-19.
Monticello will play at Albany Friday.
Barneveld 59, Black Hawk 56
BARNEVELD - Brycen Sorensen scored a team-high 20 points to lead Barneveld to a 59-56 overtime win over Black Hawk.
Barneveld has won four straight games and won nine of its last 11 games. Barneveld's Matthew Myers added 16 points.
Black Hawk senior Heath Butler scored a game-high 24 points. Senior teammate Shawn Woodruff added 12 points and senior Troy Wellnitz chipped in eight points. With the loss, Black Hawk drops to 11-9, 6-4 Six Rivers East. The Warriors are now in a third-place conference tie with Albany.
Beloit Turner 57, Brodhead 51
BRODHEAD - Beloit Turner's Alec Fruin exploded scoring a game-high 31 points to lift the Trojans to a 57-51 win over Brodhead.
Beloit Turner made 15 of 21 free throws to key the win. Brodhead senior Tjaden Sanders scored a team-high 21 points. Junior teammate Ned Slocum added 13 points and senior Griffin Day chipped in eight points. With the loss, Brodhead drops to 6-14, 3-11 Rock Valley South.
Pecatonica 65,
Juda 47
JUDA - The Pecatonica boys basketball clinched the Six Rivers East Conference championship after rolling to a 65-47 win over Juda.
Pecatonica (15-5, 10-1 Six Rivers East) has a two-game lead on Barneveld and can win the conference title outright with a win Friday at Black Hawk.
