ONTARIO - The three-peat is complete for the Albany boys cross country team.
Albany placed five runners in the top 13 to run away with its third straight Scenic Ridge and Rivers Conference championship Thursday.
Albany sophomore Reece Whitehead was the conference champion with a time of 18 minutes, 28 seconds.
Drew Mather finished fifth (18:58) and senior Tyler Conley was sixth (19:15) as both earned all-conference honors.
"That has been their goal since the summer," Albany coach Tony Brewer said of the Comets winning a third consecutive conference title.
Albany outdistanced Brookwood, 31-46 for the win.
"We knew they (Brookwood) would be our top competition."
Jose Ramirez took 11th (19:38) and was one place from being the Comets' fourth all-conference runner.
Johnny Kallgren finished 13th (19:53) to round out the top five for the Comets.
Pecatonica-Argyle finished fourth as a team with 85 points. The Vikings were led by Chris James, who took sixth (19:17) and Wyatt Massey, 16th (20:15). Lucas Stoehr finished 20th (21:08), Nathan Loyd, 21st (21:53) and Troy Farrell 22nd (21:35).
The Comets now have a week to gear up for the Darlington sectional.
"They know their biggest goal is to finish in the top two at the sectional", Brewer said, which would give the Comets a second straight trip to state as a team.
The Albany girls cross country team finished sixth overall. Jessica Mauerman, earned all-conference honors for the second straight year, as she finished seventh (18:06).
Ciara Kubesh took 13th to help the Comets. Ingrid Kallgren finished 21st (18:51) and Rosy Bauman was 22nd (18:56).
"They didn't run very well," Brewer said. "I don't know if it was the conditions or what. They didn't have a very good meet."
The Pecatonica-Argyle girls cross country team finished seventh as a team. Emma Marion took 25th (19:19) and McKenzie Burreson was 33rd (20:30) to lead the Vikings.
