Clutch Stietz double sparks Black Hawk to regional win

SOUTH WAYNE - Junior Logan Stietz smacked a three-run double to highlight a five-run second inning as No. 3-seeded Black Hawk rolled to a 12-0 victory against No. 6 seed Faith Christian in five innings Friday in a WIAA Division 4 baseball regional quarterfinal.

Junior Merik Meythaler started and pitched a two-hit shutout over four innings.

The Warriors scored four runs in the third to take control.

Black Hawk (10-15) will travel to No. 2 seed Albany for the regional semifinal Tuesday.

Evansville 3, Brodhead-Juda 0

EVANSVILLE - Evansville's Ryan Cashore blanked the Cardinals on just one hit to lead the No. 4 seed Blue Devils past No. 5 seed Brodhead-Juda in a Division 2 regional quarterfinal.

Brodhead-Juda junior Trent Gerlach allowed just two hits, but the Blue Devils scored a run in the first and two unearned runs in the third.

The Cardinals' only hit came off the bat of senior Jake Johnson, who had a double.

Evansville (9-14) will face No. 1 seed Edgerton in the regional semifinal Tuesday. Brodhead-Juda ends the season at 5-13.

Lancaster 12, Darlington 3

LANCASTER - The Redbirds turned a triple play in the second inning, but Nate Tranel went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead No. 3 seed Lancaster over No. 6 seed Darlington in a Division 3 regional quarterfinal.

Lancaster (13-11) advances to face No. 2 seed Mineral Point Tuesday in the regional semifinal. Darlington closes the season 2-13.

Southwestern 11, Argyle 0

HAZEL GREEN - The No. 3 seed Wildcats got four runs in the third inning and six runs in the fourth to down the No. 6 seed Orioles in five innings in a Division 4 regional quarterfinal.

Christopher Severson got the only hit of the game for the Orioles (2-21).

Southwestern (10-10) will meet No. 2 seed Shullsburg- Benton in a semifinal Tuesday.
