Clutch hits elude Ponies

MONTICELLO - Getting a clutch hit with runners in scoring position proved to be a challenge for the Monticello softball team on Tuesday.

The Ponies left 10 runners on base and left the bases loaded in both the fifth and sixth innings in an 8-4 loss to Barneveld.

"We just couldn't get the big hit when we needed it," Monticello coach Duane Garrison said.

Monticello sophomore Hannah Zanow went 3-for-4 and senior Jessie Garrison and sophomore Claire Klossner were each 2-for-4.

The Golden Eagles broke the game open with a four-run fifth. Barneveld's Kennedy Bursness went 3-for-4. Sophomore Kyla Ihm went 2-for-3.

Garrison pitched a complete game and gave up five earned runs on 10 hits. She struck out two and walked two. With the loss, Monticello drops to 1-5, 1-4 Six Rivers East.



Juda-Albany 19, Pecatonica 2

BLANCHARDVILLE - Juda-Albany senior Sara Jordan went 5-for-5 to power the Panthers to a five-inning win over Pecatonica on Tuesday.

Juda-Albany (9-1, 6-0 Six Rivers East) jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning. Juda-Albany senior Sayde McDermott went 3-for-3. Both junior Hailey Kammerer and Maddie Roth were 2-for-2. Juda-Albany senior Chelsea Burkhalter and junior Victoria Euclide-Petig each were 2-for-3.

Panthers' pitcher Nicki Becker pitched one inning and struck out two. Jordan pitched four innings and gave up two runs on three hits. She struck out seven and walked five.

Pecatonica's Abby Loomis went 2-for-3. The Vikings played without junior starting pitcher Ninah McKeon who was injured in a game on Monday.

"McKeon got hurt last night and that's tough with only 11 kids," Pecatonica coach Chuck Meyer said. "We just have to keep getting better in all situations."

Pecatonica senior Carly Rindy pitched a complete game and gave up 16 earned runs on 19 hits. She struck out two and walked nine. With the loss, Pecatonica drops to 0-12, 0-8.

"Carly came in and did an admirable job," Meyer said. "She hasn't pitched in a while."



Black Hawk 4, Argyle 0

SOUTH WAYNE - Black Hawk freshman Hannah Butler tossed a five-hit shutout to lead the Warriors to the victory over the Orioles.

Black Hawk junior Hannah Herbst went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Butler pitched a complete game to get the win. She struck out three and walked one.

"Butler pitched a great game," Black Hawk coach Jim Baumgartner said. "She hit her spots and kept them guessing."

Argyle junior Brianne Connors went 2-for-3 and sophomore Kirsten Ostby was 2-for-4.

Argyle junior pitcher Taylor Mathys pitched six innings and gave up one earned run on four hits. She struck out two and walked three.
