MONROE - Monroe Clinic recently announced the results of its 10th annual athletic performance testing program, and Monroe's Ryan Hughes and Black Hawk's Jen Wellnitz were the top male and female performers respectively.

Overall, 572 athletes from 11 area schools in southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois competed against their peers in the areas of speed, power and agility (see inset for top performers).

The athletic performance testing program is a coach's evaluation tool to measure an athlete's performance level. Four areas were tested including: upper body power, lower body power, vertical jump height and agility test.

"This program allows athletes to see how they compare to their peers and their competition in addition to identifying their specific strengths and weaknesses," said Eric Katzenberger, LAT, Monroe Clinic Sports medicine/rehab services practice manager. "Athletes are encouraged to use this information and apply it to their off-season workouts."

Monroe Clinic offers athletic performance testing at no cost to contracted schools. Area schools that do not have a contract with Monroe Clinic have access to this testing for a fee. Athletic testing takes place once each spring, and possibly the fall of next year. The testing is voluntary, and this year due to scheduling conflicts, many area athletes were not tested.
