MONROE - The first of three summer tennis tournaments, the city singles tournament, sponsored by the Monroe Parks and Recreation department, is slated for the weekend of June 28-29.
Jim Bartholf, tournament director, said the tournament is one week later than normal in hopes of catching more available tennis players.
The 43rd singles tournament is open to anyone and will offer four brackets: Class A Men's, the championship bracket; Class B Men's for intermediate players; Women's Open for all ages 14 and older; and youth 14 and younger for girls and boys.
Brackets will close when 16 players enter. The entry fee is $10 for players 14 and older and $5 for the youth.
The Women's Open and the 14 and younger brackets will start at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 28 at Recreation Park. They will be followed by the Men's Class A and B at 12:30 p.m. Finals will be played on Sunday afternoon.
To register or for more information, call Jim Bartholf at 608-325-9402.
Awards and tennis balls are furnished by the parks department.
