MONROE - The Cheesemakers' head baseball coach for the past six years, Steve Christensen, has stepped down.
"It's gotten really time consuming the past couple of years, especially with the added number of games," Christensen said. "It's time for someone with more energy to take over."
Christensen turned in his resignation on Friday, June 12.
"I sent a mass e-mail, telling people that the job is open. I'll still be around and will help out in any way I can, like helping with the maintenance of the facilities and equipment," he said.
Christensen, a math teacher at Monroe High School, first took over in the 2004 season after fellow educator, Jerome Cherney, retired.
The Cheesemakers won nine games this season, the most the school has had since Cherney's 2001 team that went 17-4 and won the Badger Conference.
"They were a real nice group to work with. They did what we asked and we competed in close games. I can't complain," Christensen said after the team's final loss to Edgerton in the second round of the playoffs on June 2.
