EVANSVILLE - Serving sparked the Monroe volleyball team to a five-set non-conference win over Evansville Tuesday, Oct. 15.
Monroe senior Katie Holmes had six aces and 16 digs to lead the Cheesemakers to a 17-25, 25-20, 24-26, 25-13, 15-13 win over the Blue Devils in the regular season finale.
"Katie has a really nice serve that moves around," Holmes said. "She's really consistent. She's a senior. She sees the court well and finds the weak passer to serve to."
The win may have come at a cost as Monroe senior Taylor Barrett left the match with what Ward said was a weird pain her legs.
"Hopefully, we will have her for the regional," she said. "We don't know what is going on yet."
Monroe (9-18) will play at Clinton in the regional Tuesday, Oct. 22. Barrett had five blocks. Fellow senior Kirsten Vetterli had nine kills and three blocks and senior Whitney Disch had eight kills.
Monroe sophomore Paige Murphy racked up 19 assists and senior Savannah Koester had 15 assists.
"Hustling and serving were the big factors tonight," Ward said.
