MILTON - The Monroe boys basketball team endured an offensive cold spell Tuesday the likes of which coach Pat Murphy has never seen before.
Monroe had a 37-34 lead entering the fourth quarter against Milton only to watch the Red Hawks outscore the Cheesemakers 28-1 over the final eight minutes to post a 62-38 victory.
"I have never been a part of something like this as a player or a coach," Murphy said. "It's crazy. It's a little disheartening when you have so many positive things happen in the third quarter. Our goal is to always win the fourth quarter because that is the one everyone remembers."
The Red Hawks converted four three-point plays in the fourth quarter.
"We just didn't execute," Murphy said. "They made the plays and we didn't. It's all the little things that add up to be big things."
Monroe junior Alex Barenklau scored six of his team-high eight points in the third quarter. The Cheesemakers made 6 of 9 free throws.
"We were hoping to get to the free throw line a lot more," Murphy said.
