OREGON - The Monroe girls and boys track teams each remain in the driver's seat for a third straight Badger South Conference championship.

The Monroe girls needed several late performances to escape with a 78.5-67.5 dual meet win over Oregon. The Monroe boys cruised to a 112-34 win over Oregon. Madison Edgewood was also at the meet, but the Cheesemakers didn't score the dual with the Crusaders since they faced them in a dual meet last week.

The Monroe girls received a 1-2 finish in the pole vault to seal the win. Maria Eberle won the pole vault (8-feet) and Maria Pecora took second (7-6). Monroe's Abby Rogerson also had a big finish in the 3,200-meter run finishing ahead of every Oregon runner to help the Cheesemakers.

"That sealed the deal for us," Monroe coach Curt Miller said of the 1-2 finish in the pole vault. "Those two came through when it counted. I can't say enough about what they did at the end of the meet."

Monroe senior Jaclyn Ditter won both the 100 (:17.6) and 300 hurdles (:49.8). Fellow senior Jess Leu took first in the shot put (34-7 1/2) and the discus (94-8).

The Cheesemakers' 400 relay team including Jessica Jackson, Eberle, Brenna Bazley and Molly Hlubek finished first with a time of 54.3 seconds. Bazley teamed with Ditter, Rachel Rogerson and Lauren Werth to win the 800 relay with a time of 1:51.9.

Miller said the 800 relay team's time was the other highlight of the meet.

"It's one of the top times in Division 2," Miller said of the 800 relay. "That's a pretty fast relay."

The Monroe boys track team won 10 of 18 events en route to the win. Monroe senior Caleb Ahrens won the 110 high hurdles (:16.2) and the 300 hurdles (:44.33). Fellow senior Nick Walker won the shot put (50-5 1/2) and the discus (133-10). Senior Jeffrey Hill finished first in the pole vault (13-6) and senior Michael Barrett won the high jump (5-10).

Bryce Messerli took first in the long jump (18-7) and senior Dylan Starck was first in the 800 (2:00.09). Matt Bush won the 400 (:52.9). The 3,200 relay team of Ethan Moehn, Joel Henry, Steve Christiansen and Luke Peterson finished first with a time of 8:47.1.

"We didn't come into the meet with the mindset that we were going to have our best performances," Miller said. "At the middle of the season when we are getting down to crunch time with conference in a couple of weeks, we just want to keep everyone healthy."
