DARLINGTON - Monroe senior Isaac Allen went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI to lead the Cheesemakers to a comeback 12-9 win over Darlington on Monday.

Darlington scored three runs off Monroe freshman pitcher Jared Dillon in the first inning and two more in the second off senior Jacob Ritschard to take a 5-0 lead.

Monroe (3-7, 1-3 Badger South) batted around the order and came back to score eight runs in the fourth to take the lead.

Monroe senior Hogan Edwards, who went 2-for-3 with four runs scored, singled to left and took second on an error. Allen then reached on an error by the Redbirds. Senior Cole Murray bunted for a single to load the bases. Junior Hunter Ward lined a two-run single and sophomore Dagon Rach had an RBI single to cut the Redbirds' lead to 5-3.

Ward later scored on a wild pitch and sophomore Max Lang had an RBI single to tie the game at 5. Dillon bunted for a single and senior Carter Sawdey laid down a sacrifice bunt. Ritschard had an RBI groundout, but the big blow came from Allen's two-run double to center that gave the Cheesemakers an 8-5 lead.

"For as poorly as we played the first two innings spotting them a five run lead, we could have just shut it down. Both Hunter Ward and Isaac came out and had two really big hits with two strikes. That is what we have been looking for someone to clutch up. Offensively, that is what baseball should look like."

The Cheesemakers used four pitchers. Ritschard pitched five innings and gave up two earned runs on four hits to get the win. He struck out five and walked three.

"We were not planning on using Jake," Huffman said of pitching. "We have seen Jake throw indoors and he does a great job of throwing strikes. That is what we needed. It was a heck of a job from him. I think his outing made him and our team better."

Darlington senior Jesse Sturtz went 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBI. Sturtz hit a solo home run in the fifth. Darlington's Hayden Hardyman went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Hardyman pitched 32⁄3 innings and gave up eight runs, but just four earned runs on 10 hits. He struck out one and walked one.

Murray went 2-for-4 with one RBI for the Cheesemakers. Ward had two RBI.
