VIROQUA - The Monroe High School boys golf team shot a 348 to finish ninth at the WIAA Division 2 Viroqua-North Crawford sectional Wednesday at Viroqua Hills Golf Course.

Madison Edgewood shot a 295 to win the sectional title. Lodi finished second (302). The top two teams qualify for state.

"That (ninth) was where we were projected," Monroe coach Braden Rindy said of the sectional team scoring. "It was good to make it back to sectionals. I knew it would be hard to beat Edgewood and Lodi."

Monroe senior Devon Boeck shot a 9-over-par 80 and finished tied for 21st overall with Mount Horeb sophomore Tommy Winkler and Waupun senior Braden Mock. Boeck was nine spots away from qualifying for state. The top three individuals golfers who were not members of state-qualifying teams earn state berths.

Boeck was 2-under after five holes on the front nine. He finished with double bogeys on the eighth and ninth holes on the front nine.

"It's a little disappointing," Rindy said of Boeck not qualifying for state. "I felt like he could have made it. He's such a good kid. To see him fall a little short is sad."

Monroe sophomore Jack Rogerson and sophomore Collyn Wilde tied Edgerton junior Alec Johnson for 41st place after each shot an 87. Senior Kyle Krebs carded a 94 to round out the top four for the Cheesemakers.
