FORT ATKINSON - The Monroe girls swimming team set personal records in 70 percent of the events they swam at the Fort Atkinson Invitational Saturday.
The Cheesemakers set 20 PRs en route to finishing seventh place out of 12 teams. Monroe sophomore Rachel Root won the 200 individual medley with a PR of 2 minutes, 17.79 seconds and she won the 100 backstroke with a PR of 1:00.78.
"The girls had a great day in the pool," Monroe coach Linda Moser said. "With all the hard work ahead to prepare for conference and sectionals, this served as a reminder of how much potential they have inside each and everyone of them. I am excited to see what is yet to come."
Monroe senior Leanna Schwartzlow finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:12.39.
The Cheesemakers' 200 medley relay team of Sarah Kind, Schwartzlow, Root and Angie Beaver took sixth with a PR of 2:00.85. The same quartet took sixth in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:47.98.
The Cheesemakers have their final dual meet Tuesday at Monona Grove.
