Cheesemakers hang on to stun Watertown

WATERTOWN - The Monroe football team snagged a win against Watertown, surging ahead in the final minute, 29-28, Friday.

Monroe took an 8-0 lead early as senior Sam Kind punched in a one-yard touchdown and the Cheesemakers tacked on the two-point conversion.

Later in the game, Kind added a key two-point conversion run, tying the game for the Cheesemakers, 21-21, with seven minutes remaining. Kind had six carries for 52 yards against Watertown.

Despite a special team touchdown by Watertown to put the Cheesemakers behind 28-21, Monroe snuck in a 3-yard touchdown by senior Dempzy Foley, his only carry of the night. Junior Jordan Montgomery added the two-point conversion run, giving Monroe a one-point margin with under a minute left in the game.

Montgomery had 12 carries for 80 yards. Senior Travis Wolf led the team with 23 carries for 130 yards and had two receptions for 28 yards.

Kind sealed the victory with an interception from Watertown quarterback Dylan Fagerland, who threw a total of three touchdowns and three interceptions against the Cheesemakers.
