BRODHEAD - Monroe senior Kari Jordan crushed a three-run home run in a four-run fourth inning to spark the Cheesemakers to a 9-2 win over Brodhead in a non-conference game Friday.
The Cheesemakers got some clutch hitting and had two pitchers combine on a six-hitter to beat the Cardinals.
Monroe (9-3, 7-1 Badger South) jumped on Brodhead senior pitcher Brooke Boegli for three runs in the first inning.
The big blow in the first came on Monroe junior Kylea Ambrose's two-run triple. She took advantage of an error on the play and raced all the way to the plate for a Little League-style home run.
"It was a good night for the offense," Monroe coach Dale Buvid said. "We were hitting balls hard. We had crooked numbers in three of the first four innings."
Monroe juniors Natalie Dillon and Kaya Teasdale were both 2-for-3. Junior Brooke Adams and freshman Alysha Witt were each 2-for-4. Witt also delivered an RBI triple in the fourth.
Monroe played 15 players and had 14 bat.
"We have played in a lot of close conference games and we wanted to get some of our reserves at-bats," Buvid said.
Dillon pitched three shutout innings and gave up just two hits. She struck out six and walked one. Sophomore Carly Upmann pitched four innings and gave up one earned run on four hits. She struck out three and didn't issue a walk.
"It's been about two weeks since she has been out there," Buvid said of Upmann pitching. "We just wanted to get her an inning or two to get her feet on the ground again. Our offense was so good we got her some more innings."
Brodhead junior Amber Pickel went 2-for-2 and senior Erin Kloepping was 2-for-4. Brodhead senior Payton Wright came through with an RBI triple to right center in the sixth. She raced around to score when the Cheesemakers committed an error.
Boegli pitched seven innings and gave up eight earned runs on 11 hits. She struck out six and walked
