DODGEVILLE - Monroe junior Ben Latimer scored a game-high 29 points to propel the Cheesemakers to a 63-56 non-conference win over Dodgeville Monday.

"He (Latimer) did a good job finishing shots and got some of their players in foul trouble," Monroe coach Pat Murphy said. "I thought our guys did a really good job of finding him. We got the shots we wanted. It's a good end to 2014. Hopefully, it will jump-start us to 2015."

Dodgeville outscored the Cheesemakers 19-8 in the second quarter to take a five-point lead at the half. Monroe (3-6, 0-3 Badger South) answered with an 18-6 run in the third quarter.

The Cheesemakers made 8 of 15 free throws in the fourth quarter and shot 63 percent for the game from the charity stripe (14 of 22).

"It's something we have to get better at," Murphy said of making free throws. "We will have to be closer to 70 percent in our league to win games."

Monroe sophomore Alex Tordoff scored 13 points and senior Kevin Noriega added 10 points.

Dodgeville was led by Trent Jones who scored 24 points. The Cheesemakers limited the Dodgers' second leading scorer Levi Nagel to just 11 points.

Black Hawk will play Platteville at 6 p.m. today.

"If you play up in the non-conference, you will learn some things about your team," Anderson said.
