FORT ATKINSON - The Monroe-New Glarus girls swim team swam to 17 personal record times en route to finishing seventh at the Badger South Conference meet on Friday.
Monroe-New Glarus was just 3.5 points away from taking sixth at conference. Madison Edgewood, the defending Division 2 state champions outdistanced McFarland to repeat as Badger South Conference champions.
"I'm so proud of what the girls did and for several this was their last meet as we move into sectionals," Monroe-New Glarus coach Linda Moser said in an email. "They swam for themselves and each other and gave it everything they had. The meet ended with some fun as a few of the coaches raced against each other in the 50 free. Tyler Moser, a Monroe-New Glarus swim coaching volunteer, represented us in the race."
The best finish for the Cheesemakers was the 400-yard freestyle relay team of senior Skylar Lassen, sophomore Emily Meritt, sophomore Nina Schiro and junior Maddie Hammer taking fourth with a PR time of 3 minutes, 55.99 seconds.
Schiro finished fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:03.66) and seventh in the 500 freestyle (5:42.14). Lassen took sixth in the 100 backstroke with a PR of 1:05 and ninth in the 100 freestyle (58.61).
Hammer placed sixth in the 100 freestyle (56.12) and eighth in the 200 freestyle (2:05.56). The Cheesemakers' 200 medley relay team of Schiro, Meritt, Hammer and Lassen finished ninth with a PR of 2:02.39.
Sophomore teammate Cammi Ganshert posted two PRs. She had a PR in the 50 freestyle (27.92) and her other PR came in the 100 freestyle (1:01.97). Meritt set a PR in the 100 butterfly (1:09.89
