Cheese swim to 7th

FORT ATKINSON- The Monroe-New Glarus girls swim team was short-handed Saturday, but finished seventh in the nine -team Fort Atkinson Invitational and set 14 personal record times.

The Cheesemakers racked up 167 points, scored in 10 of the 11 events and medaled in five events. Lake Geneva Badger ran away with the team title 455-346 over DeForest.

"We came in two swimmers short, but still scored 49 points more than last year," Monroe-New Glarus coach Linda Moser said. "The JV swimmers stepped up to the challenge of helping fill the gaps and two of the three B relays scored. That is what team is all about - making things happen no matter the circumstances."

New Glarus sophomore Maddie Hammer finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1 minute, 12.5 seconds. Monroe sophomore Grace Keith finished fourth in the 100 butterfly (1:05.94) and fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:06.95). New Glarus senior Anna Wolf medaled in the 100 butterfly taking sixth (1:07.72).

Monroe senior Abby Oudinot teamed with Keith, Wolf and Hammer to finish fourth in the 200 medley relay (1:58.89).

Hammer took seventh in the 200 freestyle (2:07.89) and was just 0.54 seconds away from a medal.

Wolf and Oudinot teamed with freshman Nina Schiro to take eighth in the 400 freestyle relay (4:04.35). Hammer teamed with Oudinot, senior Anna Meritt and Schiro to take ninth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:51.9).

Wolf took 10th in the 200 IM (2:34.39) and Oudinot was 11th in the 50 freestyle (26.80).

Monroe-New Glarus will host Madison Edgewood in a Badger South dual meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Green County YMCA.
