Cheese struggle vs. Crusaders

MADISON - The Cheesemakers have had a hard time all season figuring out how to close out a tight game. That problem bit the Cheese again Monday when Madison Edgewood walked off against Monroe, 4-3.

Edgewood's Megan Tancill had three hits, including an RBI triple and the walk-off home run in the seventh.

"We keep finding more ways to lose rather than we do to win," Monroe coach Dale Buvid said.

Becca Armstrong allowed just two earned runs in 6 1/3 innings. She allowed four hits, four walks and struck out nine for Monroe.

"Becca deserved a better fate than that," Buvid said. "She pitched a lot better than last week. She threw the ball much harder."

Edgewood scored two unearned runs in the top of the first and another on Tancill's triple in the third. Monroe scored a run in to the top of the third and Kendra Clark had a big RBI hit in the sixth for the Cheesemakers to tie it up.

Casey Gutzmer and Clark each had two hits for Monroe, which travels to Monona Grove today.
