MONROE - The Monroe girls track team rolled to a 125-21 win over Monona Grove Tuesday.

The Cheesemakers won 16 of the 18 events and swept the top three spots in the 100-meter dash, 1,600, 200, high jump, long jump and pole vault.

"Any time we get to compete against someone else a lot of good things can happen," Monroe coach Curt Miller said.

Monroe junior Jaclyn Ditter finished first in the 100 high hurdles (:13.57) and first in the 200 (:27.69) just ahead of teammates Ty Gibson and Jess Miller.

Gibson finished first in the 100 (:13.57), Brenna Bazley took second (:13.75) and Jess Jackson was third (:14.0).

Ditter came into the hurdles after a fall in her last meet at Portage.

"I was a little nervous and shaky coming out," Ditter said. "The hurdles were not as good as I can do."

Ditter teamed with Gibson, Maria Eberle and Miller to win the 400 relay with a time of 52.69 seconds. Although the Cheesemakers' handoffs weren't as sharp as expected, Monroe won the 400 relay by more than three seconds.

"I think we need to work on them and practice them in practice," Ditter said of the handoffs. "For sure they will be better later in the season."

Curt Miller isn't concerned about the handoffs since he's matching different runners in several relays.

"We have a lot of fast girls," he said. "We have a new order. A handoff means everything in a race like that."

Senior Tess Seichter finished first in two individual events including the 800 (2:36.69) and the 1,600 (5:45). Fellow senior Tessa Frutiger took second in the 1,600 (5:59.72) and senior Stephanie Wyss, who ran her first race longer than an 800 in track, took third (6:15.60).

Miller used the dual meet with the Silver Eagles as a training session.

"If they are going to be good 800-meter runners, it's nice to have them run a race above and below," he said of his trio of runners.

Wyss just wanted to stay with her teammates.

"Tess and Tessa are great distance runners," Wyss said. "I just wanted to try to keep within seeing distance of them two."

Stephanie Wyss won the high jump after clearing 4-feet, 10 inches.

"I wish I could have got my PR (5-0)," she said. "It's pretty good being consistent and getting 4-10.

Senior Laura Chopp took first in the pole vault (8-6), Eberle finished second and junior Veronica Andraski was third.

Freshman Lizzy Dale won the 400 (1:06.28). Dale also keyed a first place finish in the 3,200 relay.

The Cheesemakers took the top three spots in the long jump. Sophomore Kirstie Hinojosa finished first with a jump of (13-3), which was just ahead of junior Cheyenne Foster (13-0 3/4), who was second and Brenna Bazley was third (12-10 3/4). Brenna Bazley won the triple jump (30-1) and Molly Wyss, along with Mollie Bazley, were two of the top three finishers in the 3,200.

Brenna Bazley teamed with Hinojosa, Foster and Mollie Bazley to take first in the 800 relay (1:59.25). The Cheesemakers' 1,600 relay team of Eberle, Frutiger, Hinojosa and Stephanie Wyss finished first with a time of 4:27.16.

Jessica Leu finished second in both the shot put (35-4) and discus (91-3). Leu set a new personal record in the shot put by two feet.

"One of the things I'm most excited about is one of our second-place finishes," Miller said of Leu in the shot put.
