MONROE - After tearing two ligaments in his leg and dislocating his kneecap playing indoor soccer, Monroe junior McKenzy Foley didn't know when he would wrestle again this season.

Foley at 170 pounds returned last week and continues to get into wrestling shape after pinning Dodgeland sophomore Brandon Ketter in 1 minute, 11 seconds. Monroe had five pins en route to rolling to a 48-23 win over Dodgeland Tuesday.

Foley said his conditioning is at about 60 percent.

"It feels fine," Foley said of his knee. "I'm just out of shape because I haven't wrestled for six weeks. I'm getting back the feel of wrestling."

The other pins the Cheesemakers posted came from sophomore Cole Murray (126), freshman Travis Wolf (132), freshman Dempzy Foley (145) and junior Traiten Gorr (220). With the win, Monroe improves to 2-13, 1-2 Badger South.

"It's good for our young guys," Monroe coach Tom Witt said. "As a team, winning lifts our spirits. They (Dodgeland) are Division 3. The competition we see is much higher than what they see."

Dodgeland forfeited matches at 152, 182 and heavyweight. There were double forfeits at 106 and 113 and the Cheesemakers forfeited at 120.

Murray (126) notched two takedowns in the first period before pinning Dodgeland freshman Broeden Yech in 47 seconds. At 132, Wolf pinned freshman Levi Smith in 19 seconds.

"Travis is showing some signs of some good things," Witt said. "He had a state champion from Milton on his back last week. For him to go out and get a takedown and get a pin is really a confidence booster for him."

Dempzy Foley (145) pinned Dodgeland freshman Matt Hussli in 1:16. Gorr (220) pinned Dodgeland senior Dan Fude in 2:42. Gorr (28-2), ranked No. 10 in the Wisconsin Wrestling Online Division 2 poll, wasn't surprised the match lasted into the second period.

"I wasn't pushing it really hard," Gorr said. "I kind of wanted to give myself some more practice on the mat, conditioning and competition."

Gorr understands there are still areas he needs to improve in after two losses at the Bi-State Classic in La Crosse.

"I need to work on my takedowns," Gorr said. "In some of the matches that come down to the third period and overtime, it comes down to takedowns."
