PLATTEVILLE - No team scores were kept Tuesday at the UW-Platteville Pioneer Indoor Invitational, but the Monroe Cheesemakers and several area teams got further evidence that they feature some impressive athletes.

In the 12-team boys meet, Monroe freshman Seth Calaway blazed to a victory in the 55-meter dash in 7.02 seconds.

"That is awesome. That is a great start to the season," Monroe coach Curt Miller said.

Senior Cody Oudinot ran the 1,600 in 4 minutes, 45.36 seconds, good for second behind one of the state's premier runners in Darlington's Tyson Miehe (4:31.34).

"He's going to be a contender in the Badger Conference," Miller said of Oudinot.

Monroe also had a champion in the 400, with sophomore Ethan Moehn finishing in 53.43.

"For early in the season and indoors, that is a fast time," Miller said.

Despite having just a couple of practices after competing in basketball, Monroe sophomore Taylor Barrett cleared 5 feet in the high jump.

"She's definitely ahead of where she was at this time last year, so she's got a good season ahead of her," Miller said.

Monroe had three girls make the 55-meter finals. Junior Jess Jackson placed fourth (8.10), sophomore Tre Voegeli sixth (8.20) and freshman McKenzie Hesgard seventh (8.25).

"We've had a (400) relay team qualify for state four years in a row. It's nice to see these girls carry on that tradition," Miller said.

Among area teams, the Sugar River boys had three champs as Ryan McCoy won the 800 (2:01.69), Jon Beckman cruised in the 55 meters (8.26) and Garrison Woods won the triple jump (42 feet, 9.5 inches). Darlington's Kent Miehe took the 3,200 in 10:26.13 and the Redbirds boys won the 800 (1:40.84), 1,600 (3:43.56) and 3,200 (8:58.16) relays.

Sugar River's Lou Ann Judd won the 3,200 in 12:54.48 and the Raiders won the 800 relay in 1:58.12. Darlington took the 1,600 (1:58.12) and 3,200 (4.27.70) relays.
