FORT ATKINSON - The Cheesemakers' girls soccer team got off to a hot start Thursday and picked up its first Badger South victory of the year with a 4-0 win over Fort Atkinson.
"I think the girls are very proud of this game," Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill said.
Chelsea Haffele scored 7 minutes, 10 seconds into the game, and Monroe rode the momentum from there.
"That first goal by Chelsea right away got everyone fired up for the rest of the game," O'Neill said.
Kylee Ritschard scored in the 30th minute to give the Cheesemakers (5-3-3) a 2-0 lead headed into halftime. Ritschard scored again in the 55th minute and Catie Eiserman added the final goal in the 69th minute to sweeten the win.
"Abby Schneider had an absolutely spectacular game. She and the forwards really moved the ball up the field well," O'Neill said.
Gail LaVoie had five saves in goal.
