MILTON - An early overtime goal by the Red Hawks' Amber Davis was the only score of the game.
"It was a long free kick, and (Davis) hit a header in right in front of the goal," Monroe coach Miriam O'Neill said. "That's a very tough shot for a goalie to guard."
Gail LaVoie had nine saves throughout the game for Monroe, but Milton put a shot into the back of the net just 34 seconds into the extra frame to steal a conference win.
"Gail played a great game and had some really nice saves," O'Neill said.
Monroe (4-3-3) had trouble adjusting to Milton's speed and physical play. However, O'Neill said that in the second half the Cheesemakers stepped up their game.
Sugar River 2, Columbus 1
COLUMBUS - Sugar River's girls soccer team needed two second-half goals to edge Columbus.
Hannah Kernen scored the first goal of the game 54 minutes, 51 seconds in, and Paige Boley added a second goal in the 69th minute to seal the win. Columbus scored in the 72nd minute.
Brittany Harried had the Raiders' lone save. Sugar River outshot the Blue Jays 11-2.
"Columbus displayed a passionate defensive effort by posting nine players in the box for much of the game, yet mounting a couple fast transition attacks," Raiders coach John Ziperski said.
