BURLINGTON - The Argyle volleyball team's postseason run came to an end after Catholic Central swept the Orioles in a WIAA Division 4 regional championship match Saturday.

Argyle senior Ashley Bruehlman racked up a team-high 10 kills and 15 digs, but Catholic Central topped Argyle 25-14, 25-22, 25-21.

"The girls had a solid season," Argyle coach Jen Butler said. "It's not the way we wanted it to end. They (Catholic Central) have a tough team. We played right with them. We just couldn't stay consistent."

Junior Kirsten Ostby dished out 16 assists and junior Jena Saalsaa posted seven kills and three blocks.

After dropping the first set by nine points, the Orioles pushed the Hilltoppers in the final two sets.

"I think in the first set nerves affected us," Butler said. "In the second set, we played with them. We just couldn't close it out. I'm really proud of how they played."

The Orioles recorded just three aces as a team.

"Usually, our serving is a bit stronger and more aggressive," Butler said. "I think we struggled with our passing a little bit. "We just couldn't stay consistent."

Argyle finished the season 17-7 and won the Six Rivers East Conference for the third straight year.

Randolph 3,

Black Hawk 0

RANDOLPH - Black Hawk freshman Bailey Butler had a team-best eight kills, but Randolph swept the Warriors in three sets in a WIAA Division 4 regional final Saturday, 25-14, 25-18, 25-11.

"It was not our best volleyball," Black Hawk coach Rachel Wolff said. "It wasn't because of a lack of effort or preparation. We came up against a powerful team and they were really quick and tall."

Black Hawk senior Hannah Herbst had 10 assists and sophomore teammate Hannah Butler had four kills.

"With their height and quickness, we just couldn't get to the ball," Wolff said. "When we were in our system, they had a hard time digging us up. We just didn't have as many opportunities. They had more opportunities to hit against us than we had against them."

Black Hawk finished the season 17-5 and second in the Six Rivers East.

"We took second in conference and were second at each of our tournaments too. I think sometimes we surprised ourselves. I was really proud of this group I had and the senior leadership."

Cuba City 3, Darlington 0

CUBA CITY - The third time wasn't the charm for the Darlington volleyball team. In a WIAA Division 3 regional championship match against Cuba City Saturday, the Cubans knocked off the Redbirds 25-16, 25-20, 25-8. The Cubans won all three matches on the season.

Cuba City, the SWAL champion, advances to the sectional semifinals and will play Waterloo, which edged Wisconsin Heights in five.
