BRODHEAD - Brodhead softball coach B.J. Bockhop didn't want to show all of his cards in the championship game of the Brodhead Invite on Saturday.
Orfordville Parkview beat the Cardinals 8-2 in the championship game. Bockhop elected to use freshman Brooke Boegli as the starting pitcher instead of No. 1 pitcher Amanda Pickel.
"We knew if we played Parkview, we were not going to throw our No. 1 because we play them Tuesday in conference," Bockhop said. "I thought we played fantastic all day."
Brodhead (6-2, 4-0 Rock Valley South) went 2-1 in the tournament and finished in second place. The Cardinals beat Elkhorn 19-2 and River Valley 18-1 in pool play to earn a shot at the championship. Boegli picked up the win against Elkhorn by going five innings and giving up just two runs.
