Cards keep trophy

BRODHEAD - The Brodhead-Juda girls cross country team made sure the Cardinals would keep the traveling trophy in a meet against Orfordville Parkview and Evansville Tuesday.

The Cardinals had the top four runners in the girls' race led by senior Taylor Bluemel who won the 5,000-meter race with a time of 19 minutes, 55 seconds. The team title is determined by combing the top the girls and boys scores. The Cardinals ran away with the title for the third straight year with 73 points, which was well ahead of Evansville (111) and Parkview (180).

Sophomore teammate Cora Purdue finished second (20:29) and sophomore Madee Harding took third (21:20). Senior Danielle Dieckhoff finished fourth (22:25).

The Brodhead-Juda boys cross country team had five runners finish in the top eight. Brodhead-Juda junior Rueben Larson took second (18:51) and senior teammate Nate Ciabatti was third (18:55). Senior teammate Peter Speckman finished sixth (19:18) followed by sophomore Holden Whitledge in seventh (19:23) and junior Blake Burns in eighth (19:28).
