MOUNT HOREB - Thirty-two minutes wasn't enough to decide the WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal game between Mount Horeb and Brodhead Thursday.
The second-seeded Mount Horeb Vikings used an extra four minutes and 20-of-26 free throw shooting to edge the third-seeded Brodhead Cardinals in overtime, 50-45.
Both teams opened the playoffs Tuesday with close wins, and the Thursday night regional semifinal proved to be more of the same.
The Cardinals found themselves out in front, 20-16, at halftime only to see the Vikings surge ahead at 25-24 entering the fourth quarter.
Brodhead was able to tie the game at 37 to send it into overtime, but the Vikings outscored the Cardinals 13-8 in the extra period to earn a matchup with the Monroe Cheesemakers Saturday in Verona.
The big difference was scoring depth for the Vikings. Eight different players scored for Mount Horeb, with Luke Weber leading the way with 18 points and Ethan Payne with 16.
Only four players scored for Brodhead. Senior Jake Cole tied his season-high with 21 points while junior J.J. Panoske added 16.
The Cardinals end their season with an overall record of 15-9, while Mount Horeb improved to 13-11.
