MONTICELLO - The Monticello volleyball team beat Juda in three games Tuesday night, in the first round of the Division 4 playoffs.
The Ponies dispatched the Panthers in three games (25-19, 25-12, 25-15), but coach Scott Smice said his team can still play better and will have to if they want to advance further.
"We're a little slow. We'll have to play a little better to move on," Smice said. "Our coverage was slow. It looked like we were waiting for things to happen instead of making things happen. That's what we're going to work on in practice."
Junior Marissa Berg led the Ponies in kills with 12, and senior Jordyn Kubly had eight. Junior Claire Bruns led the team in assists with 24, and senior Amy Silver notched seven kills and five blocks.
Smice said he was impressed with Silver's play.
"Amy Silver was completely focused the whole night," he said. "I've been trying all this year ... to get her to be more aggressive at the net. She understands in tournament time that she's gotta let it all come out, so that was nice to see."

Monticello will host Central Wisconsin Christian on Thursday.
Smice is confident in his team but is aware that playoff time is a tumultuous time.
