CUBA CITY - Brodhead senior J.J. Panoske scored a game-high 29 points to lead the Cardinals to a 60-41 win over Milwaukee Science Academy in the second round of the Cuba City Classic Thursday.

The Cardinals (4-4, 2-2 Rock valley South) jumped out to a 17-2 first quarter lead and led 28-11 at halftime. It was a reversal for the Cardinals who lost 66-52 to River Valley Wednesday.

"The one thing we did do is we came out and played team basketball," Brodhead coach Brian Kammerer said. "Defensively, we got after it. On offense, we found the open guys and did what we needed to do."

Brodhead junior David Earleywine and senior Nick Jacobson each scored 10 points.

ALBANY - Albany junior Ty Mauerman stepped up from the free-throw line when the Comets needed him the most in the fourth quarter.

Albany (2-6, 1-1 Six Rivers East) led just 33-31 entering the fourth quarter, but Mauerman went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line late in the game to seal the victory. The Comets outscored Orangeville 15-6 in the fourth quarter.

"We just executed better," Albany coach Derik Doescher said.

The Comets shot just 12 of 28 from the line.

"As a team we didn't shoot free throws well, but he (Mauerman) really stepped up and knocked down four big ones for us."

Albany senior Josh Krueger scored 16 points to lead the Comets and Mauerman added nine.

EDGERTON - The Ponies got hot from the 3-point line and rallied for a comeback win.

Monticello (4-3, 2-0 Six Rivers East) hit 10 three-pointers en route to the non-conference win at the Edgerton tournament. The Ponies stormed back from a 12-point third quarter deficit. Monticello senior Tyler Ritschard, who scored 16 points, scored seven consecutive points midway through the third quarter.

Monticello junior Austin Steffen knocked down a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter that gave the Ponies a 46-45 lead that they would never relinquish.

Steffen scored 10 points and hit three 3-pointers. Monticello senior Corey McGowan scored 15 points and also hit three 3-pointers. Junior Lukas Kolasch added 12.
