Cardinals topple Ponies

BRODHEAD - Junior Whitney Gerber had three hits and two RBIs to lead the Brodhead softball team to an 8-1 win in the season opener Friday.

The Cardinals scored four runs in the first inning to take a 4-1 lead. Brodhead sealed the victory with a three-run sixth. The Cardinals pounded out 10 hits in their season-opening win.

Brodhead junior Azzy Steiner pitched a complete game one-hitter to get the win for the Cardinals. She gave up just one run and struck out 10.

Monticello sophomore Hannah Zanow had the only hit for the Ponies. Sophomore teammate Claire Klossner had one RBI.

Monticello sophomore Lexi Graber pitched three innings and gave up four runs. Senior Jessie Garrison also pitched three innings and gave up four runs. Graber recorded two strikeouts and Garrison struck out one.
