Cardinals falter after gaining early lead

BRODHEAD - The Brodhead softball team exploded for four runs in the first inning, but the Cardinals couldn't hang on to the early lead and Madison Edgewood rallied for a 6-4 win Tuesday.

Brodhead was plagued by five errors.

The Crusaders battled back with a five-run second inning.

Brodhead junior Whitney Gerber had two hits, and senior Azzy Steiner had two RBI.

Steiner pitched a complete game and gave up one earned run on eight hits. She struck out five and walked two.



Black Hawk 3, Dodgeville 2

SOUTH WAYNE - Black Hawk freshman Hannah Butler crushed a leadoff home run in the sixth inning to propel the Warriors to a nonconference win over Dodgeville.

Dodgeville jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the third.

In the fifth, Black Hawk senior Sammy Lovelace reached on an error. She stole second and then stole third. She then stole home on a delayed steal to tie the game at 2.

Black Hawk senior catcher Jordyn Delzer threw out a runner trying to steal for the second out in the seventh. Butler then struck out a Dodgeville batter who had hit a home run in the first.
