WALWORTH - The Cardinals played a tough first set and faded as the match progressed, losing yet again to Big Foot 25-22, 25-17, 25-13 Thursday, Sept. 26.
Rachel Heller led the way for Brodhead (18-2, 4-2 Rock Valley South) with 10 kills and eight digs. Sophomore Amber Pickel also had eight digs for the Cards.
"My three seniors, who played, played well tonight," Brodhead coach Erin Kammerer said of Heller, Carly Mohns and Jordan Halvorsen. "They've been with me four years and haven't beat Big Foot yet."
Mohns had eight kills and added three blocks. Payton Wright led the Cardinals with 11 assists.
"We came in and fought really hard in that first game, but the second and third they (Big Foot) served really well," Kammerer said. "They whittled away at our confidence."
Monticello 3, Albany 0
MONTICELLO - The Monticello volleyball team used the energy from Senior Night to sweep Albany in three sets 25-8, 25-22, 25-13.
"We were amped up for Senior Night in that first game," Monticello coach Scott Smice said. "They had some emotions flying."
Monticello senior Marissa Berg had 10 kills and four blocks. Fellow senior Clare Bruns racked up 23 assists and senior Claire Geitzel had seven aces and senior Jade Green had 10 digs. With the win, Monticello (10-2, 7-0 Six Rivers East) remains in the driver's seat for a conference championship.
"She (Geitzel) was a serving machine tonight," Smice said.
The Comets came out and played strong trying to steal the second set.
"We had some unforced errors and dug ourselves a hole," Smice said. "Albany did a great job of keeping the ball in play and never quitting."
The Ponies played without junior Alyssah Kubly who suffered an ankle injury in practice earlier this week.
"I don't know when she (Kubly) will be back," Smice said.
Albany senior Felicia Conley had 12 assists and nine digs. Albany junior Alexis Kennedy notched eight kills and senior Ashlee Berra had five blocks.
Barneveld 3, Pecatonia 0
BARNEVELD - The woes continued for the Vikings as they lost to Barneveld in straight sets 25-19, 25-13, 20-25.
Senior Emily Gruenenfelder was the top performer for Pecatonia (0-11, 0-7 Six Rivers East), notching 28 assists. Sophomore Clara Moen led the Vikings with four kills and Julie Meyer was tops in blocks with four.
"We changed up our lineup from the first time we played them," Pecatonia coach Tori Leonard said. "It was a very competitive first game. We probably played our best volleyball all season."
One of the changes Leonard made was switching Julia Meyer from the middle to the outside.
"Meyer really stepped up tonight," Leonard said. "She played a new position and led the team in blocks."
The Eagles made some adjustments of their own after a tough first set, causing problems for the Vikings in game two.
"They were hitting to spots we weren't covering," Leonard said. "Then serve-receive hurt us in the last game."
