Cardinal boys run to title

BRODHEAD - The Brodhead-Juda boys cross country team turned in a dominating performance to win the season-opening Brodhead Invitational on Thursday.

Brodhead-Juda junior Michael Hatter won the 5,000-meter race in 19 minutes, 4 seconds, which was one second ahead of runner-up Bennedict Gallager of Evansville. The Cardinals had four runners in the top five to run away with the team title 24-53 over Beloit Turner in the four-team incite.

Brodhead-Juda senior Reuben Larson finished third (19:12), followed by teammate Jacob Staffon in fourth (19:20) and senior Nate Ciabatti in fifth (19:31).

Brodhead-Juda's Jeff Moss took 11th (20:12) and teammate Holden Whitledge took 12th (20:15).

The Brodhead-Juda girls placed third in the five-team meet with 53 points. Madison Edgewood captured the team title over Evansville 38-46.

Madison Edgewood's Maddie McClimon won the race in 21:32.

Brodhead-Juda junior Cora Purdue placed fourth (22:27), junior Madee Harding fifth (22:52), Nadia Flood-Elyafi eighth (23:42) and Nicole Kamholz 14th (24:42).
