NEW GLARUS - With two players 6-foot or taller, the Cambridge girls basketball team overpowered New Glarus in the second half rolling to a 49-34 win over the Knights Thursday.
Cambridge's Monica Muth scored a game-high 19 points. However, 6-foot-1 post player Emily Stein scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half to power the Blue Jays. The Knights trailed the Blue Jays 22-17 at the half. The Blue Jays outscored the Knights 27-17 in the second half by getting the ball inside.
Stein scored eight points in the third quarter and with her 6-foot sister provided a lift for the Blue Jays.
"The twin towers were tough," New Glarus coach Megan Scheele said of the Steins. "They pounded the ball inside."
New Glarus junior Tamara Elzen scored eight points and sophomore McKinley Righter added seven points.
With the loss, New Glarus drops to 4-9, 1-2 Capitol South.
"Overall, I thought we played nice defense," Scheele said. "It's a step up from our last game because that is where we struggled."
